LPG ProteK Systems for Kitchens

Specialist in Fire Extinguishing System

Sometimes we forget how important it is to have a suitable extinguishing system available until an accident occurs.

Modern kitchens present a dangerous combination of high amounts of flammable oils and extreme sources of heat, creating an environment in which fire is a constant threat. As well, extraction hoods capture a large amount of grease that deposits in the interior of the hoods, the fans, and ducts, providing possible ways to initiate or propagate a fire.

Systems Features

The LPG system comprises a storage system, a distribution system and discharge nozzles, all connected to a detection and actuation system.

+ Start of fire
when kitchen appliances start to burn, there is a sudden increase of the temperature inside the kitchen hood.
The thermal sensors detect this increase and start the extinguishing process.

+ Actuation
the mechanism is monitored by a control panel called LPG artdetec. It receives a signal from the thermal sensors when the rapid increase of temperature raise has been detected.

+ Extinction
The process ends with the electrical activation of the valve and the discharge of the extinguishing agent (pH neutral) through the discharge pipework and the nozzles.

LK-2: Dual effect extinguishing agent

+ Dual effect:

• Cooling: Under exposure to high temperature the agent reacts with the oil in a mechanism called saponification. This generates foam that cools the oil.

• Fire containment: The extinguishing agent shields the oil from further contact with oxygen, stopping the fire and preventing possible reignition. It provides a faster extinction than other methods.

+ Non-corrosive
In contrast to other extinguishing agents, LK-2 is an aqueous solution with a neutral pH. It does not corrode metals in a kitchen (stainless steel, aluminium, brass…).

+ Ideal for class F fires
LK-2 is especially designed to extinguish type F fires, namely fires ignited from kitchen oil or from grease inside the ducts, and it is also suitable for class A fires.

+ Easy cleaning
the extinguishing agent is easily washable with water or steam and so permits the reinstatement of the kitchen within minutes.

+ Safe for people
LK-2 is an extinguishing agent that does not generate toxic vapors during discharge. Ideal for protecting places where people are present.

+ Safe for the environment
LK-2 is biodegradable and so does not generate any damage to the environment. 95% of the product degrades in 28 days.

Main Advantages

Safety and quality guarantee
The LPG valves are 100% tested and offer a reliable and safe performance in all their functions. They are designed and manufactured by LPG and incorporate protection against accidental discharge due to any possible micro-leakage.

Flexibility of design
The pipe network can be designed in such a manner that it does not interfere with the workflow in the kitchen. The system is available in two cylinder sizes (12 l. and 25 l.) and can be adapted to fit any kind of kitchen structure or placement of kitchen appliances. Subsequent changes in the placement of the appliances are possible. It is capable of activating remote visual or acoustic alarms. One single release signal can trigger several cylinders.

Complete extinction in multiple appliances
Good protection requires an extinction of the fire, as well as a cooling of the oil to avoid reignition. The protected range should include fryers, hobs, extraction hood filters and fume extract ducts. Thanks to an improved design LPG ProteK is a better solution than other detection and extinguishing systems.

Electrical and manual activation
The manual release allows an activation of the system at the first sign of fire, even before it is automatically released.

Non-toxic
LPG ProteK does not release toxic vapors during discharge. It is ideal for the protection of normally occupied premises.

Space saving
It needs less space in comparison to systems based on CO2.

Permanently active
Many fires start in empty premises due to hot coals, fryers that have not been switched off, etc… Consequently, the detection and extinguishing system must function 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year, with or without the presence of personnel.
